COSMAGORA's Scientific Activity Team joins the Canadian Space Agency for the Eureka! Festival

For the Eureka! Festival on June 15, 16 & 17 COSMAGORA's Scientific Activity Team will join the CSA team to run the activities of the Pheonix Mars mission space exploration kiosk. The Canadian Space Agency entrusted us with this exciting mandate aimed to increase their visibility and to offer specialized scientific activities during this event. 5080 stars for the ASTROLab at Mont-Mégantic !

Yesterday we installed a graphic acknowledgement panel at the ASTROLab to thank their contributors for their donations. Beyond simply listing the generous supporters, this panel was designed to be part of the exhibition. The panel presents a map of the celestial sphere in Mollweide format depicting 5080 stars, which are visible to the naked eye, the Milky Way, the ecliptic and several other astronomy cartography details. Asides from computing numerous coordinate transformation algorithms, this complex project required the combination of the information from different astronomic databases and the list of more than 1000 contributors to create the final product using graphic illustration software such as Photoshop and Illustrator.


Conference series on protected territories

We recently completed the presentation of a series of 4 conferences at the St-Luc Secondary School in Montreal. These conferences, destined for secondary I and III students, addressed topics relating to the environment, geography and protected territories. The students were invited on a world tour to discover the giant tree forests, the deserts and the starry night sky. From their seats they traveled from New-Zealand to British-Columbia, from the Sahara in Libya to the Mont-Mégantic...

The Canadian Space Agency entrusted Sébastien Gauthier of COSMAGORA with the mandate to develop a kit of scientific demonstrations along with a series of scientific activities for the general public regarding the next Martian exploration mission Phoenix. This material will be used by the the CSA as part of their public scientific activities across Canada.



Mission Phoenix logo, Martian atmosphere simulator, home-made barometer assembly, kit's barometer, demonstration regarding the lidar to be used during the mission.

Launch of the site cosmagora.ca, experimental release. The site will be completely operational in early 2007. Keep visiting to see the latest developments. The bank of images PICTORIS should be available in March. The first tests of CORVUS the bank of HD images should begin in April. Examples of our visualization of scientific data and special services will be posted on this site by the end of April. Despite the fact that the services are not all described on the site, all our services are available. Don't hesitate to contact us for further information.
